Babcock Supports Automotive Workers Transition Towards New Industries

30 September 2016

Babcock will collaborate with the Australian Maritime College in October to deliver a three day course in Fundamentals of Naval Architecture.

The course is suited to those working in surface or subsurface engineering programs who require awareness or knowledge of naval architecture to support their primary role, or those seeking an introduction to the field.

Craig Schwartz, Training Program Manager at Babcock Pty Ltd says, “the course is suitable for students from a wide range of backgrounds, regardless of whether they are involved in maritime capability from an engineering or managerial perspective.”

It is also well suited to those in the automotive sector, looking to expand their engineering insight into a growth sector in South Australia.

Fundamentals of Naval Architecture provides insight into the nomenclature, environment, forces and stresses, design, classification and regulatory frameworks for maritime platforms. Upon successful completion of this course, students will achieve a broader knowledge beyond their individual field and operate more effectively as part of an integrated maritime project team.

The course can be complemented by a two day bridging program to be the equivalent of the full five day naval architecture course, and is structured to qualify as a continuing professional development for those working in an engineering domain. Successful completion of the course and two day bridging program may also qualify students for an exemption in JEE – Principles of Naval Architecture, for the Australian Maritime College Post Graduate study areas of Master of Applied Science, Master of Business Administration or Master of Engineering.
