Dr Mark J Kiemele

Mark J. Kiemele, President and Co-founder of Air Academy Associates, has more than 30 years of teaching and consulting experience. Having trained, consulted, and mentored more than 30,000 leaders, scientists, engineers, managers, trainers, practitioners, and college students from more than 20 countries, he is world-renowned for his Knowledge Based KISS (Keep It Simple Statistically) approach to engaging practitioners in applying performance improvement methods.  His support is requested by an impressive list of global clients, including Sony, Microsoft, GE, Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin, Northrop-Grumman, General Dynamics, GlaxoSmithKline, Bio-Rad, Samsung, Hyundai, Kia, PerkinElmer, Danaher, John Deere, Xerox, and a host of DoD organizations.

Mark earned a B.S. and M.S. in Mathematics from North Dakota State University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Texas A&M University. During his time in the USAF, Mark supported the design, development and testing of various systems, including the Maverick and Cruise Missile systems. He performed the first aircraft/missile safe escape analysis on the Maverick, determining optimum escape maneuvers to minimize risk to the launch aircraft and pilot. He was a software engineer responsible for the design and development of the terrain following guidance system of the Cruise Missile. Mark was also a professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy.  Mark currently serves on the National Defense Industrial Association’s Test & Evaluation Executive Committee; and he teaches Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques (STAT) and Combinatorial Test Design courses for the International Test & Evaluation Association and many other test organizations.

In addition to many published technical papers, he has co-authored the books Basic Statistics: Tools for Continuous Improvement; Knowledge Based Management (KBM); Applied Modeling and Simulation: an Integrated Approach to Development and Operation; Network Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis; Lean Six Sigma: A Tools Guide; Design for Six Sigma:  The Tool Guide for Practitioners, and most recently, Reversing the Culture of Waste: 50 Best Practices for Achieving Process Excellence.  He is also the editor of the text Understanding Industrial Designed Experiments.

Course end:
Fri 10th November 2017
Individual price:
Course location:
Adelaide (Mawson Lakes)

This 5 day course provides staff (working in test-related fields) with the skills to apply a range of powerful tools and methods to maximise the return on investment from their test program and is delivered by Dr Mark Kiemele.

The course demonstrates why Design of Experiments (DOE) is the most effective and efficient means to conduct testing of complex systems (including operator and environmental factors).  DOE techniques allow the user to either achieve their existing test objectives with a greatly reduced test scope, or conversely allow the user to achieve so much more within the original schedule and budget.  The course covers the activities that must precede a DOE including the first line of defence against variation and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).  Testing strategies such as screening, modelling and confirmation are discussed along with how they fit into an integrated developmental and operational testing strategy.

The course is highly suited to those working in the field of verification and validation for complex systems and can be used towards Green Belt Accreditation in Design for Six Sigma through Air Academy Associates.

Breakthrough Performance using Design for Six Sigma

Course start:
Mon 13th November 2017
Course end:
Fri 17th November 2017
Individual price:
Course location:
Adelaide (Mawson Lakes)

Great systems don’t come by accident - they are the result of a systems engineering process that seeks the right solution for a customer’s need. How quickly and efficiently this answer is reached however often varies for many reasons. If you work in an environment where cost, schedule and capability all count, then this course is for you.  This 1 week hands-on workshop with Dr Mark Kiemele teaches the Identify, Design, Optimize, and Validate (IDOV) strategy for delivering better systems and services to customers faster and at a lower cost. The course uses the “Keep It Simple Statistically” (KISS) approach that includes many in-class examples and exercises. Participants have ample opportunity to practice what is taught to ensure they have a practical, working knowledge of the IDOV tools and methodology.

This course can be used towards Green Belt Accreditation in Design for Six Sigma through Air Academy Associates.
